Drum Player Erik Oldens
Erik Oldens is the drummer in the popular Baltimore cover band the Mohill Band. After moving to California to pursue a career as a professional drummer he would eventually move back to his home town of Baltimore and start a successful career playing in cover bands. Not the way he envisioned his career going but one with which he is quite satisfied.
Erik Oldens was born and raised in Baltimore and he got his start playing the drums when his parents bought him a drum set when he was a child. This would lead to him playing the drums in the school band as well as in a number of rock bands that he and his friends would form over the years. None of these bands ever played a paying gig but it they did give Oldens the opportunity to practice the drums. It was also enough to convince him that he wanted to make his living as a musician.
After graduating from high school Oldens decided that he would probably have to leave Baltimore if he was going to make a living as a musician. Therefore he packed up and headed for California. He got a job working in a music store and he set out to audition for a number of bands. He would end up playing in a few different cover bands around Los Angeles but nothing that could be called full time work. Eventually he would manage to find some work as a studio musician, mainly doing the music for television shows and commercials. While this work paid well it was hardly consistent and he still had to rely on his job at the music store to pay his way.
After a few years of struggling in California Oldens made the decision that he was going to move back to Baltimore. He wasn't really sure what he was going to do for a career since it looked like music was never going to pay off for him. However after he had been back for a few months he heard about a cover band that was looking for a drummer. With nothing else to do he decided to tryout. This was of course the Mohill Band and eventually it would lead Oldens to a job as a full time musician for the first time.
The first couple of years that Erik Oldens was playing with the Mohill Band it hardly looked like he was going to be able to make a career out of it. He would have to go to his old standby and take a job in a music store while the band struggled to find paying jobs. Eventually however as the band developed a good reputation around Baltimore for their live shows they were able to start finding enough work to make it a full time job and Erik Oldens was finally a truly professional musician.
