Lead Guitarist John Bauer

John Bauer is a guitarist and the founder of the Mohill Band, one of the most popular cover bands in Baltimore. His story is pretty typical, the kid who dreamed of being a rock star when he got his first guitar. Many years of struggling in unsuccessful bands before finally reaching the point where he was playing in a band professionally. While he may not have become a rock star John Bauer is a member of a popular and well respected cover band.

John Bauer has been playing the guitar professionally for more than twenty years. Born and raised in the Baltimore he has played in a number of local bands. He got his start when he was twelve and he got his first guitar for Christmas. This would ultimately lead him to starting his own band while he was in high school. This endeavor really didn't go anywhere as they had no idea how to find a gig so they never did actually perform for an audience. However it would set Bauer on the path to a career as a musician.

After graduating from high school Bauer set out on the road to becoming a professional musician when he started auditioning for a number of local bands. Eventually he would get chosen to be the guitarist in several bands but it was rare that any of these bands actually got a paying job. In the meantime Bauer who had been paying the bills by working in the food services industry decided to give that up and become a guitar teacher. For several years he would earn his living by teaching others to play the guitar. Although he was quite successful at this and had a large number of students the desire to play in a band still hung with him.

Eventually Bauer would decide to start his own band. He decided that one of the reasons all of the previous bands he had been in had failed was that it was too hard to get jobs when you were performing your own songs. Therefore he decided that his new band would be a cover band. This is how the Mohill band got its start. He found some other musicians who were looking for a band to play with and they came up with a set list and started getting jobs.

The early years of the Mohill band were a struggle, finding jobs was still a challenge since they were relatively unknown. There were a number of changes in personal as people would come and go. Eventually they would settle on the current lineup and the slowly but surely they built up their reputation. The result was more and more jobs and the Mohill Band would eventually become one of the most popular cover bands in the Baltimore area. They now have no trouble finding work and John Bauer has fulfilled his goal of playing in a band for a living.
