Biography: Keyboard Player Tim Jacobs
Tim Jacobs is the keyboard player for the Mohill band, one of Baltimore's most popular cover bands. Unlike most other professional musicians Tim Jacobs never set out to be a professional musician. However when the chance to become one presented itself he took full advantage of it. A decision that he is thankful that he made every day, since it means that he no longer has to deal with the grind of working in the business world.
Like many children Tim Jacobs first taste of music came when his mother forced him to take piano lessons. It wasn't that he didn't like playing the piano it was just that he would have preferred to playing with his friends rather than taking lessons. Born and raised in Baltimore Jacobs would continue to take piano lessons for several years at which point his parents bought him a keyboard. This greatly increased his interest in playing music since he could now play with his friends in a band that they had formed.
After graduating from high school Jacobs would head off to the University of Maryland where he would study economics. While he was at college he continued his interest in music by playing in a cover band that he and some friends had formed. The band was mostly just for fun as they never performed anywhere it was really just a way to continue to playing music. After getting his degree Jacobs would get a job as an actuary, which would require several more years of study on his part as he would have to pass a series of exams as he moved on with his career. This rather limited his opportunities to play music.
Eventually Jacobs would complete the actuary exams and settle into his career but at the same time he missed playing in a band. He managed to find a couple of other musicians who were also interested in joining a band and they formed a cover band. They managed to get a few gigs around Baltimore but it was always tough since all of the members of the band had full time jobs at the time. Soon this would change for Tim Jacobs however as the company that he worked for started downsizing and he found himself out of a job.
It was at this point that the life of Tim Jacobs would take a dramatic turn. He heard about a professional cover band that was looking for a new keyboard player. Jacobs decided to audition for this rather than to go out and look for a new job as an actuary. The band of course was the Mohill Band and Jacobs would get the job. The result was a complete change in his career as he is now a full time professional musician. He doesn't miss working in the business world at all - and his main hobby right now is racing cars for Geens-Jacobs-Racing, a small local racing team.
